An Environmental Management System (EMS) is a collection of systems and practises that enables an organisation to lessen the negative effects it has on the surrounding environment while simultaneously increasing the effectiveness of its operations. Environmental management can be thought of as consisting of all of the practices, policies, and procedures that your facility implements in order to comply with local, state, and/or federal environmental legislation. This definition encompasses all three levels of environmental regulation: local, state, and federal. In a general sense, this entails keeping close tabs on the emissions of chemicals and other by-products into the atmosphere, water, or waste streams of the surrounding area. The majority of firms monitor their EHS management by inspecting the inputs and outputs of their processes. Everything that goes into the facility will exit it either as a finished good or as a waste or by-product of some other process. Understanding this balance is the most important aspect of environmental management for businesses; whatever is put in must also be taken out.
